Reckless Driving:  In late January, 2017, Yordano Ventura, age 25, was killed in a motor vehicle accident while visiting his home in the Dominican Republic.  According to Dominican police, Ventura‘s one car accident occured on the Juan Adrián highway near San Jose de Ocoa. Ventura was alone in the vehicle.  The cause of the collision was not reported.

Reckless Driving: Ventura was known for his lightening like fast ball and his fearlessness against much larger players from other professional baseball teams.  Ventura was an essential element of the pennant victories for his Kansas City Royals and the 2015 World Series.  Two years earlier, Oscar Taveras, another rising young baseball star, was killed in a traffic crash in the DR.  Taveras and his girlfriend were killed near Puerto Plata.  Ventura was pitching in the 2014 World Series and had Taveras‘ initials and number on his baseball cap honoring Taveras.  Coincidentally Andy Marte a retired major league baseball player also died in a vehicle crash in the DR several days earlier than Ventura’s passing.

Reckless Driving: Ventura’s tough attitude often drew unwelcome attention from batters.  On one occasion, Manny Machado charged the pitcher’s mound; on another Mike Trout engaged Ventura in a tense stare down.  Ventura earned over one million dollars in his second season of a five year contract with a twenty-three million dollar guarantee.  Ventura came a long way from a 16 year old signed for $28,000.00 as a project.

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop:  In early April, 2016 Rapper Fat Trel of Washington, D.C. was stopped for speeding in Arlington, Virginia. The police contact with Fat Trel lead to a DUI Investigation.  Once arrested on suspicion of DUI, Fat Trel was found to be in the possession of a significant amount of narcotics.  The narcotics lead to a charge of possession with intent to distribute.  Fat Trel was also driving suspended which lead to still another charge.  Fat Trel may have violated the terms of his bond in a pending case in Maryland for attempting to pass counterfeit money at a Maryland Casino.

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop: Fat Trel probably did not understand his constitutional rights against self-incrimination during the DUI Investigation.  The U.S. Constitution gives us the right to merely ask for a Lawyer and not respond to questions posed in the DUI Investigation.  We are also entitled to decline to participate in the roadside gymnastics like the walk and turn and the one leg stand.  We can also decline the eye test.  The only test that one is required to do in Virginia is to submit to the breath test at the station or a blood draw under the Implied Consent statute.  You can find a FREE APP HERE that will remind you and the Officer of your rights in a traffic stop.

Fat Trel Arrested After Traffic Stop:  Martrel Reeves is his birth name.  He is also know as Fat Trel aka the Fat Fool aka the leader of the Slutty Boyz.  The W tattooed under his right eye is for Washington where he grew up.  Trel made the journey from selling Rap CDS from the trunk of a car to working with Wale.  In 2011 Fat Trel was the hottest rapper in the DMV.  That makes sense as Fat Trel’s mission statement is representing “the real D.C.”  In 2010 Fat Trel launched his breakout tap No Secrets.

Toronto Mayor Ford Avoids DWI: Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is in the news again as part of Mark Towhey’s tell all book.  Towhey was Ford’s Chief of Staff.  Mayor Rob Ford: Uncontrollable — How I Tried to Help the World’s Most Notorious Mayor will be available to the general public around the end of October, 2015.  In the book we learn that Toronto police often stopped Mayor Ford for drunk driving and then simply gave him a ride home.  We also learn that Towhey started an office policy that no one was to ride with Mayor Ford when Ford was driving.  This policy came on the heels of a staffer’s report that while riding with Ford, Ford downed an entire 12 ounce bottle of vodka in one gulp.  The staffer wisely exited the vehicle and found other, safer transportation.  Towhey admits that he did not inform Toronto police of the Mayor’s drunk driving.  Towhey defends that decision by noting that Toronto Police already knew about Ford’s serial drunk driving and took no steps to arrest Ford.

Toronto Mayor Ford Avoids DWI: It appears that the Toronto police deny giving Mayor Ford special treatment as he drove drunk almost every day through Toronto streets.  Mayor Ford consistently denied claims of his substance abuse until videos were discovered documenting such drug and alcohol abuse.  Ford then entered rehab toward the end of his four year stint as Mayor.  As Towhey notes the work of the staffers ceased being about doing the work of Toronto government and all about keeping Ford alive. #TorontoMayorFordAvoidsDWI

Reckless Driving Sheikh

Reckless Driving Sheikh

Reckless Driving Sheikh

Reckless Driving Sheikh:  Beverly Hills, California was recently the location chosen to showcase some very expensive, exotic and fast automobiles.  According to the media, Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, and some cohorts were revving engines and racing down residential streets in September of 2015.  Apparently they were staying in a $45,000 a month rental along with their exotic Ferraris and Porsches.  The racing Middle Eastern royalty were videoed tearing up the neighborhood.  The Beverly Hills police made no arrests and now Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and the hot cars have left the United States.

Reckless Driving Sheikh: Al Thani owns and races on a drag racing team.  He belongs to the Al Thani ruling family of gas and oil wealthy Qatar. Al Thani has often been seen racing cars like a Formula One Race Car.

Reckless Driving Sheikh:  The video shows a dark yellow 12 Cylinder Ferrari racing a white Porsche.  The Ferrari goes for almost one and a half million new.  The racing stopped when the Ferrari stated throwing smoke either from its tires or its engine.  When the police arrived, both cars were parked in the rental house driveway.  Someone appeared and admitted owning the cars but denied the reported racing.  Law Enforcement claims that the videos were not detailed enough to show the identities of the drivers.  No witnesses were willing to go on record as identifying the drivers.  One witness did claim that a driver explained that he could have him killed with no chance of being punished for such killing.  The police have pledged to continue their search for the phantom drivers of the exotic cars.  The city has also requested that the United States State Department complain about the reckless driving of Al Thani a member of the ruling family.  #RecklessDrivingSheikh

This author is always concerned when a former football player makes the news for aberrant behavior in light of the new information about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).  CTE is a degenerative disorder found in persons who have suffered multiple brain injuries like concussions.  Because the condition is common in boxers, CTE used to be described as dementia pugilistica.  CTE is prevalent in athletes in contact sports such as football, ice hockey and professional wrestling.  Persons suffering from CTE usually exhibit memory loss, aggression, confusion and depression.  CTE is very similar to dementia in younger people.  Soldiers are also subject to CTE due to explosions causing concussive injury.  A blast injury can cause CTE in a single event while in contact sports CTE usually requires repetitive injury.  A number of well known people may suffer or have suffered from CTE:  Junior Seau, Tony Dorsett, Brett Favre, Bernie Kosar, Jim McMahon, Art Monk, and John Mackey.
